The tough, decorative wood of a South Asian tree of the genus Dalbergia, much used especially for furniture; Indian rosewood.

A deciduous tree, Dalbergia sissoo (family Fabaceae (Faboideae)), of southern Asia and the Middle East, or (in later use) a related tree, D. latifolia, of south-eastern India, from which shisham or sissoo wood is obtained.
