What Is LinkedIn Pinpoint?

  • LinkedIn Pinpoint is a free daily word association game available on LinkedIn Games. Each day, you're shown 5 clues one at a time — from the most obscure to the most obvious — and your goal is to guess the single category that connects them all.

  • The game tests your lateral thinking skills. Clue 1 is intentionally vague — it could relate to many categories. As more clues are revealed, the connection becomes clearer. The challenge is guessing correctly using as few clues as possible. Solving on Clue 1 scores the best, while needing all 5 clues is still a win but with a lower score.

  • Pinpoint resets daily at midnight ET, giving you a new puzzle every day. You can share your score and compare results with your LinkedIn network.

Tips for Solving LinkedIn Pinpoint

Don't Guess on Clue 1 Unless Certain

Clue 1 is deliberately ambiguous. Wait for Clue 2 to narrow down the category before committing to an answer — unless the first clue immediately clicks.

Think in Categories, Not Individual Words

Each clue is an example of the category, not a synonym. Ask yourself: "What group could this belong to?" rather than "What word relates to this?"

Look for the Pattern After Clue 3

By Clue 3, you usually have enough data points to identify the pattern. If two clues fit a category, the third either confirms or eliminates it.

Use Process of Elimination

If a clue doesn't fit your working theory, reassess immediately. The category must work for ALL revealed clues simultaneously.

Categories Are Often Broad

Pinpoint categories tend to be broad groupings (e.g., "Things found in a kitchen", "Types of dance") rather than narrow ones. Think general before thinking specific.
