Any plant of the leguminous genus Lespedeza, comprising herbs and shrubs native to eastern North America, Asia, and Australia, and bearing clusters of white, pink, or purple flowers. Also (as a mass noun): plants of this genus used in the southern United States to provide fodder or control soil erosion.
